Each year the Texas Clogging Council seeks to recognize one of
it's members as outstanding in promoting clogging within our State.
We are proud to announce Bobby Butzke as Texas Clogger of the
Year 2009!
He comes from a musical family and was raised with all types
of music including country, bluegrass, gospel and rock. It was
probably not evident early on that he would be a dancer although
he spent many hours in the garage ….…. break dancing.
His introduction to clogging actually came from a girl friend.
She was a clogger and told him if he wanted to spend any time
with her he would have to tag along to her clogging club. He did
and it didn’t take long before he got up and started dancing.
That worked out well because they are now married.
Since that time he has danced with and helps lead three different
clogging teams. On a personal note he is one of about four people
that I credit or blame depending on your prospective for teaching
me to clog.
What is really important is how he promotes clogging with new
young or even new old dancers. His strengths include his generosity
of time and effort, his work ethics and his ability to have a
great time treating all the kids like they were his own and all
the adults as his equal. This includes praise and encouragement
but also the tough love of being a friend and mentor. If you need
to reach him try the internet. He is probably on at night checking
up on his dancers on their MySpace and Facebook pages to make
sure they are not doing something they shouldn’t.
This year’s nominee is obviously a good dancer. He is the co-director
of two clubs, does an endless number of exhibitions, competes
nationally, and is a national judge and an excellent choreographer.
Please join us in congratulating the 2009 Clogger of the Year
... Bobby Butzke.
